4I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.

4Young women of Jerusalem,

promise me never to awaken love

before it is ready.

아가서 2:7(7예루살렘 여자들아 내가 노루와 들사슴으로 너희에게 부탁한다 내 사랑이 원하기 전에는 흔들지 말고 깨우지 말지니라)에서 사용된 "노루와 들사슴으로"라는 구절이 여기서는 생략되었습니다.

그러나 여기서 그녀의 부탁이 덜 강렬하거나, 진지함이 줄어든 것이 아니라, 요청하는 형식이 오히려 더 진지해진 것 같습니다. 그들이 흔들어서 깨우려고 했다는 두려움; 그녀는, 그 두려움이 비합리적이고, 위험하고, 그녀에게 뿐만 아니라, 그들에게도 해가 될 수 있어서, 그 두려움에서 벗어나고자 했습니다. 

이런 그녀의 암시는, 결혼할 때 노래를 부른, 처녀들에게 한 것입니다. 한번은 저녁에, 잠을 자려고 할 때 (아가서 2: 7), 또 다른 한번은, 아침에, 잠에서 깨어서 일어나려고 할 때 (아가서 8: 4)입니다.

The phrase, "by the roes and by the hinds of the field", used in Sol 2:7; is here omitted; not as if the charge was less vehement and earnest here, for the form of expostulation seems rather to express more earnestness: for the words may be rendered, "why will ye", or "why should ye stir up, and why awake my love?" being apprehensive they were about to do it; and which she dissuades from, as unreasonable and dangerous, and might be prejudicial to them as well as to her. 

The allusion is to virgins, that sung songs at marriages; one in the evening, lulling to sleep; and another in the morning, awaking and stirring up from it.
