Revelation 2:4 (Thomas Manton)
4Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. 6But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
4But I do have something against you! And it is this: You don't have as much love as you used to. 5Think about where you have fallen from, and then turn back and do as you did at first. If you don't turn back, I will come and take away your lampstand. 6But there is one thing you are doing right. You hate what the Nicolaitans+ are doing, and so do I. 7 If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. I will let everyone who wins the victory eat from the life-giving tree in God's wonderful garden.
4그러나 너를 책망할 것이 있나니 너의 처음 사랑을 버렸느니라 5그러므로 어디서 떨어진 것을 생각하고 회개하여 처음 행위를 가지라 만일 그리하지 아니하고 회개치 아니하면 내가 네게 임하여 네 촛대를 그 자리에서 옮기리라 6오직 네게 이것이 있으니 네가 니골라당의 행위를 미워하는도다 나도 이것을 미워하노라 7귀 있는 자는 성령이 교회들에게 하시는 말씀을 들을지어다 이기는 그에게는 내가 하나님의 낙원에 있는 생명나무의 과실을 주어 먹게 하리라

Thomas Manton이 말하기를
"나무의 뿌리가 기능을 잃으면, 잎들이 잠시 동안은 푸르나, 며칠 이내에 시들어 떨어집니다; 이와 같이 사랑은 다른 모든 의무의 뿌리이자 핵심이기 때문에, 그것이 쇠퇴할 때 다른 것들도 함께 쇠퇴합니다.”

"As when the root of a tree perisheth," says Thomas Manton,
"the leaves keep green for a while, but within a while they wither and fall off; so love is the root and heart of all other duties, and when that decayeth other things decay with it."
